What kind of content do you edit?

I specialize in editing content for authors and bloggers. I edit short and long works of fiction in any genre, but I primarily focus on science fiction, fantasy, romance, and young adult stories. I am also happy to edit authors’ websites, blogs, newsletters, and queries. I edit blogs of all types, with a primary focus on literary blogs.

What do you write? If I didn’t mention your kind of content, please don’t hesitate to contact me so we can work together to decide whether or not I’m the right fit for you.

What resources do you use?

I am familiar with both both The Chicago Manual of Style and The Associated Press Stylebook, and I will reference your preferred dictionary for spelling and word usage. I will also note any other references I use for your specific project throughout the editing process, and I will work with the resources in your style sheet should you provide one.

What editing programs do you use?

I proofread and copyedit using one of three programs: Track Changes in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Reader, or Google Docs.

Don’t see your preferred editing program? Contact me so we can talk about what works best for you!

What is this style sheet you speak of?

A style sheet is is what helps me preserve your unique voice as a writer. It includes your preferred resources and reference materials, as well as any preferences for spelling, punctuation, and formatting. As a proofreader, I’ll follow your style sheet should you provide one. If you choose to acquire my copyediting services and do not already have a style sheet, I’ll create one specifically for your project. I’ll also create a word list to keep track of your preferred spelling and word usage and (if applicable) a character list to make sure the details of your characters remain consistent.

What is your delivery time?

The delivery time varies depending on the length of your project. Please feel free to contact me for a time estimate!

Do you do rush jobs?

Yes! If you need a project edited in a very short amount of time, contact me and we’ll talk about how fast I can complete it. The price of a rush job is an additional 25% of my usual rate.

What do you consider to be a revision?

After I’ve sent back your completed project, I encourage you to go through and implement (or discard) any changes, or to make any changes of your own. After you’ve done that, you can send the project back to me, and I will do one final edit, free of charge.

*Please note that big changes to content or a full re-write are not considered a revision, and edits of those are not complimentary.

How many revisions do you offer?

I offer one complimentary revision. If you’d like to make more changes to your project afterward, and those changes also require my services, I consider that to be another full edit and it is therefore not free.

I’m not sure if I need an editor and/or if I’m ready to acquire your services…

No worries! I understand that hiring an editor is a big step. Contacting me is by no means a commitment to acquiring my services. If you’re unsure about needing an editor, or if you’d like to know more about me, please feel free to get in touch! Together we can work out what services you need, and if I’m the right editor for you.

Is there a place where you give book recommendations and talk about writing and editing?

Why, yes. Yes, there is. The Pens & Roses Blog is the place where I plan to write about wonderful books, talk about the creative writing process, and give helpful info on writing, editing, and freelancing. If you’re curious, scroll up and click on the “Pens & Roses” tab to check it out. First blog post coming soon!
